V. Social Sciences (9 hours)

  • Students who have not met the Georgia and U.S. Constitution requirement by examination should enroll in POLS 1101 or POLS 1101E or POLS 1101H.
  • A passing grade on an examination on the history of the United States and Georgia is required to satisfy the United States and Georgia History Requirement for all persons receiving a baccalaureate degree from the University, unless exempted by one of the following courses: HIST 2111, HIST 2111E, HIST 2111H, HIST 2112, HIST 2112E, HIST 2112H, HIST 3080H. Examinations are given at University Testing Services. Reexamination is permitted. Contact University Testing Services at (706) 542-3183 for information.

Entrance Requirements

This is a high demand major. After meeting the entrance requirements, students will be selected based on the high-demand selection criteria.


Entrance Requirements Effective Fall 2024

- Enrolled in and accepted to UGA
- Completion of 24 credit hours toward Areas I-V of the General Education Core Curriculum prior to final acceptance. Students may apply to the major while in their final semester of completing this requirement.
- Minimum overall G.P.A. of 2.8
- Completion of a written statement of interest. The maximum length will be two pages. The statement must be written at the UGA Testing Center
- Completion of an online application within the application window dates each semester.

The above criteria are minimum application requirements and do not guarantee admission to Grady College or to a particular major.

 

Entrance Requirements for Fall 2023 - Summer 2024

- Enrolled in and accepted to UGA.
- Complete Areas I-V of the General Education Core Curriculum prior to final acceptance. Students may apply while in their final semester of core courses.
- Overall G.P.A of 2.8.
- Good academic standing (2.0 cumulative UGA G.P.A).
- Complete a written statement of interest. The maximum length will be 2 pages. This statement must be written at the UGA Testing Center.
- Completed online application within the application window dates each semester.

High-Demand Major–Selection Criteria


High-Demand Selection Criteria Effective Fall 2024

- Grades in the 24 credit hours of courses completed in Areas I-V of the General Education Core Curriculum will constitute 75% of the admission decision.
- The score on the statement of interest will constitute 25% of the admission decision.

- Grades in Areas I, IV, and V of the General Education Curriculum will constitute 75% of the admission decision.
- The score on the statement of interest will constitute 25% of the admission decision.

A baccalaureate degree program must require at least 21 semester hours of upper division courses in the major field and at least 39 semester hours of upper division work overall.

A grade of "C-" (1.7) or higher must be earned in any College of Journalism and Mass Communication course which counts toward satisfaction of requirements for the A.B. degree. An overall grade point average in College of Journalism and Mass Communication courses of at least "C" (2.0) or higher is required to satisfy requirements for the A.B. degree.
