V. Social Sciences (9 hours)

  • Students who have not met the Georgia and U.S. Constitution requirement by examination should enroll in POLS 1101 or POLS 1101E or POLS 1101H.
  • A passing grade on an examination on the history of the United States and Georgia is required to satisfy the United States and Georgia History Requirement for all persons receiving a baccalaureate degree from the University, unless exempted by one of the following courses: HIST 2111, HIST 2111E, HIST 2111H, HIST 2112, HIST 2112E, HIST 2112H, HIST 3080H. Examinations are given at University Testing Services. Reexamination is permitted. Contact University Testing Services at (706) 542-3183 for information.

Entrance Requirements

This is a high demand major. Minimum eligibility criteria include:

Eligibility Criteria Effective Fall 2024:
-  Overall G.P.A. of 3.40 or higher at the end of application to the major.
-  Completion of ENGL 1101ENGL 1102MATH 1101BIOL 1103, and BIOL 1103L, or equivalent, with a grade in each course "B" (3.0) or better prior to application.

Eligibility Criteria Prior to Fall 2024:
-  Overall G.P.A. of 3.20 or higher at the end of application to the major.
-  Completion of ENGL 1101, ENGL 1102, MATH 1101, BIOL 1103, and BIOL 1103L, or equivalent, with a grade in each course "B" (3.0) or better prior to application.


Major courses start in fall semester each year. Students must apply to the major in the previous January using the Mary Frances Early College of Education common application. The common application addresses the minimum eligibility criteria and also includes required essays. The rubric-based evaluation process examines all applicant materials, including GPA, performance in the required prerequisite courses, and quality of essay responses. Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee acceptance to the program.
