V. Social Sciences (9 hours)

  • Students who have not met the Georgia and U.S. Constitution requirement by examination should enroll in POLS 1101 or POLS 1101E or POLS 1101H.
  • A passing grade on an examination on the history of the United States and Georgia is required to satisfy the United States and Georgia History Requirement for all persons receiving a baccalaureate degree from the University, unless exempted by one of the following courses: HIST 2111, HIST 2111E, HIST 2111H, HIST 2112, HIST 2112E, HIST 2112H, HIST 3080H. Examinations are given at University Testing Services. Reexamination is permitted. Contact University Testing Services at (706) 542-3183 for information.

  • No more than nine hours remaining in core Areas I-VI (not including in-progress course work)
  • Minimum 2.80 GPA overall
  • Completion of EDUC 2110 and EDUC 2120 and EDUC(EPSY) 2130 and MATH(EMAT) 5001/7001
  • Completion of Core Area VI courses with a grade of "C" (2.0) or higher

Program Completion Requirements for Teacher Certification:
To be considered a UGA program completer and to be eligible for an Induction Certificate in an initial educator preparation program, you must complete the following assessments:
  • Child Abuse and FERPA Trainings (CA-FERPA)
  • Dyslexia Trainings
  • Passing score on Dispositions
  • Passing score on Intern Keys
  • Passing score on Program Key Assessments (PKAs)
  • Completion of MFECOE Exit Survey
  • Attendance of certification session
  • MFECOE Ethics Training Assessment
  • MFECOE Professional Ethics and Conduct Agreement (PECA Contract)
  • GaPSC Grade Bands Requirement Met
  • GACE Content Assessment (Certification Requirement)
  • GaPSC Educator Ethics Assessment - 360 (Certification Requirement)

Please note: The Area of Emphasis in Educational Studies in Elementary Education WILL NOT lead to a teacher certification. Admitted students who are unable to meet program requirements and/or complete certification requirements are counseled into the Educational Studies area of emphasis by program faculty following completion of the third block of the program. It is not an eligible route for initial program admission.
