V. Social Sciences (9 hours)

  • Students who have not met the Georgia and U.S. Constitution requirement by examination should enroll in POLS 1101 or POLS 1101E or POLS 1101H.
  • A passing grade on an examination on the history of the United States and Georgia is required to satisfy the United States and Georgia History Requirement for all persons receiving a baccalaureate degree from the University, unless exempted by one of the following courses: HIST 2111, HIST 2111E, HIST 2111H, HIST 2112, HIST 2112E, HIST 2112H, HIST 3080H. Examinations are given at University Testing Services. Reexamination is permitted. Contact University Testing Services at (706) 542-3183 for information.

Note: Biology requires individual review of non-equivalent transfer courses before they can be used to satisfy Area VI and Major Requirements.

Note: A grade of "C" (2.0) or better is required in all science and professional education courses.

*Beginning July 1, 2019, all teacher education candidates must have a grade of B or higher in the exceptional children course requirements for certification.

Entrance Requirements

Completion of Core Areas I-V.

Completion of (CHEM 1212-1212D, CHEM 1212L) or (CHEM 1312H, CHEM 1312L) or MATH 2260 and PHYS 1111-1111L or PHYS 1211-1211L (courses can be in progress) with a minimum grade of "C" (2.0) or higher.

Note: After initial entry, an additional process is required for admission to the block program (professional coursework sequence); which includes a minimum overall GPA of 2.8.

A baccalaureate degree program must require at least 21 semester hours of upper division courses in the major field and at least 39 semester hours of upper division work overall.
Students in the Franklin College must earn a grade of "C" (2.0) or better in major required courses.

To be considered a UGA program completer and to be eligible for an Induction Certificate in an initial educator preparation program, you must complete the following assessments:

  • Child Abuse and FERPA Trainings (CA-FERPA)
  • Dyslexia Trainings
  • Passing score on Dispositions
  • Passing score on Intern Keys
  • Passing score on Program Key Assessments (PKAs)
  • Completion of MFECOE Exit Survey
  • Attendance of certification session
  • MFECOE Ethics Training Assessment
  • MFECOE Professional Ethics and Conduct Agreement (PECA Contract)
  • GaPSC Grade Band Requirement Met
  • GACE Content Assessment (Certification Requirement)
  • GaPSC Educator Ethics Assessment - 360 (Certification Requirement)
