An introduction to the design of three-dimensional forms and space using various materials and methods. Students will explore concepts of three-dimensional design, such as scale and proportion, positive and negative space, focal point, and weight and gravity. Students will also study concepts of environmental context in three-dimensional art.

Elements of three-dimensional figure sculpture with two-dimensional figure drawing in the exploration of the architecture of human anatomy. The live model, skeleton, anatomy book, and écorché (flayed muscle sculpture) are all used to explore the form and space of the human figure. Perspective, cubic space, and topography are emphasized as the plastic means of expression.

Introduction to contemporary perceptual painting, a synthesis of global image culture. Emphasis is placed on historic motivations, non-western influences, subject matter, and composition by utilizing painting media and image interpretation. Students learn painting techniques, respond to issues through painting language, and articulate their analysis through critiques and written responses.
