Interdisciplinary Studies AB

Overview

Athens Campus

A student with academic interests for which no suitable major is offered by any single department in the College of Arts and Sciences may pursue an Interdisciplinary Studies (IDS) major. An IDS major plans a program of study and fourth-year thesis with a faculty advisor and an advisory committee, who are chosen by the student and the IDS Coordinator. The Interdisciplinary Studies major consists of a minimum of 24 hours of courses plus a Fourth-year Thesis (3 hours) on a topic of special interest. At least 15 hours of the major must be drawn from departments within the College of Arts and Sciences. Applicants for an IDS major must have completed 30 credit hours of college courses, but not more than 75, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher. Students must maintain at least a 3.0 cumulative GPA in order to remain IDS majors.

The IDS program is a rigorous one that requires early planning on the student's part. The first step for students interested in an IDS major is to contact the Coordinator of the Division of Interdisciplinary Studies for further information.

Griffin Campus

This is a liberal arts degree with the major course work concentrated in the social sciences. The major consists of 11 upper-division (3000-level and above) courses and offers students two concentrations from which to choose: Psychology and Sociology. In keeping with the program’s interdisciplinary nature, students take their major course work not only in their chosen concentration, but also in other social science disciplines that complement their area of concentration.

Double Dawgs

This major is part of a Double Dawgs pathway: Interdisciplinary Studies(Griffin Campus) AB/Nonprofit Management and Leadership MA(non-thesis) For more information, go to doubledawgs.uga.edu
