Communication Sciences and Disorders BSED

Overview

The Communication Sciences and Disorders (CMSD) major offers undergraduate coursework leading to a Bachelor of Science in Education degree (B.S.Ed.). Students desiring to practice in the areas of speech-language pathology, audiology, or education of the hearing impaired and to obtain full professional credentials and certification from the Georgia Professional Standards Commission must obtain a master's or doctorate degree from an accredited program. Students must apply to the Graduate School for acceptance into a master's program.

Major courses start in fall semester each year. Students must apply to the major in the previous January using the Mary Frances Early College of Education common application. The common application addresses the minimum eligibility criteria and also includes required essays. The rubric-based evaluation process examines all applicant materials, including GPA, performance in the required prerequisite courses, and quality of essay responses. Meeting the minimum eligibility criteria does not guarantee acceptance to the program. Approximately 75% of applicants are admitted to this major each year, and most successful applicants have GPAs of 3.7 or higher.
