Human Development and Family Science BSFCS

Overview

The major in Human Development and Family Science at UGA is designed for students who want a broad understanding of individuals and families across the life span. You learn about the developmental progression of individuals from the prenatal period to the end of life and focus on the interactions among individuals, families, communities, and society.

Through major coursework, electives and experiential learning, you can prepare for graduate study, as well as a wide variety of careers supporting individuals and families. You can choose from coursework focused on health and wellness to prepare for allied health and health-related professions, or prevention and intervention to prepare for mental health, education, or advocacy professions (*graduate degrees may be required). For more information, please review Career Information.

The Association of Child Life Professionals has established the bachelor's degree as a minimal requirement for Child Life certification. We currently offer a Certificate in Child Life (application and admittance required), which provides accepted students with the academic coursework needed to pursue a child life clinical internship, and a Child Life Emphasis (Joint Program with Augusta), which includes a full year of clinical experience and coursework at Children’s Hospital of Georgia in Augusta, GA.
