An A.B. in English emphasizes critical thinking, articulate self-expression, and a broad knowledge of literature in English. The study of creative as well as critical writing, of language history and usage, and of the shifting cultural contexts within the English-speaking world are also vital elements of the major. The English faculty expects its students to abide by the principles stated in “A Culture of Honesty,” the University’s code of academic integrity. Moreover, courses in the English Department require of all students and instructors a commitment to civility and mutual respect in discussing the many sensitive topics that classes in the humanities traditionally address.
This major is part of a Double Dawgs pathway: English AB/English MA English AB/Middle Grades Education MAT(Social Studies and Language Arts)(non-thesis) English AB/Public Administration MPA(non-thesis) For more information, go to doubledawgs.uga.edu
